$500,000 mHealth Diffusion Grants Program received over 50 competitive letters of intent applications

4/28/11 By David Lindeman

Over 50 organizations submitted very strong letters of intent, all intended to expand mobile health technologies that help older adults remain independent. Organizations vary in provider setting, targeted patient populations, and technologies used to manage chronic disease, acute care, and safety needs, showing the vast diversity of approaches mHelath offers in the burgeoning field of wireless care and support for older adults. As our society addresses the needs of an ever expanding older population with limited financial and workforce resources, mHealth offers an increasing number of opportunities for providers and older adults alike. Untethering devices and offering remote contact between providers and patients will provide new opportunities throughout the health care system.

The mHealth diffusion grants program will provide up to six one-year grants to organizations that focus on the adoption and diffusion of mobile health technology-enabled services to improve the health of older adults, while reducing the burden on clinicians and caregivers. The Center will give priority to projects that demonstrate a successful strategy for the rapid diffusion of effective mHealth technologies with a positive and measurable near-term impact on quality, cost or both in addition to an emphasis on scalability and sustainability. Be sure to look for our grant announcement in July.

We look forward to identifying outstanding diffusion strategies for mobile health and being able to share these successful strategies nationally. Please contact the Center regarding this emerging technology area or with any questions at info@techandaging.org
